BRGY & SK ELECTIONS 2010: Townspeople in Maria Aurora Protest Tax Increases; PPCRV Endorses Petition to DOF
- Details
Majority of the people in the municipality of Maria Aurora in the province of Aurora were caught flat-footed at the news of a 200-250% increase in the town’s proposed zonal values. About a thousand of them signed a document protesting the proposed increase which means a greater increase in terms of tax. Fr. Israel Gabriel, PPCRV Coordinator of Aurora, sought the help of PPCRV National to elevate to the Department of Finance this situation wherein no consultation or public hearing was held on the proposed increase. He made it clear that the signatories in the document are not against taxes, but are against exorbitant taxes which will make life harder for the many poor people in the municipality. PPCRV National Chairperson, Ambassador Henrietta T. de Villa, endorsed to Secretary Cesar Purisima of Finance the petition of the people of Maria Aurora town.
