In the May 2019 Midterm Elections, PPCRV partnered with numerous schools and universities to mobilize volunteer poll watchers on election day and encoders in the Command Center. Animated by the spirit of volunteerism, youth volunteers signed up with their schools and universities and became involved in various campaigns: volunteer recruitment, One Good Vote video making, and voters’ education fora nationwide. For instance, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines mounted a video making campaign on One Good Vote and generated numerous video entries from colleges and universities.
Partner academic institutions such as Thames, Asia Pacific College, Assumption Antipolo, De La Salle University, UST, PUP and others organized voters’ education and candidates’ fora. School-based volunteers (faculty, administration and students) were likewise essential additions to the muscle of the Command Center as volunteer encoders for the unofficial parallel count.
Among those were: Espiritu Santo Parochial School of Manila; Manila Cathedral School; Miriam College High School; College of
Saint Benilde; De La Salle University, Taft; Polytechnic University of the Philippines; Adamson University; and others. Ivan Garong from MDI and PPCRV Youth Coordinator for recruitment of command center volunteers did a fine job and successfully enlisted a continuing force from high schools and universities even as final exams were ongoing at the time. Professors and teachers also offered to help in the encoding of ERs. The PPCRV is ever grateful!
